After leaving Lymington last Sunday (in the pi**ing rain) destined for the (soon to find out) non existent Bournemouth airshow I was horrified to find out that my boat at WOT would hardly even reach 22knts.

I had been out about a week earlier and all had been perfect so I was sure that after the rather painful experience of trying to get on to the plane (and the subsequent difficulty actually trying to keep it there) my engines were in some way buggered!!

Anyway after lots of worry later it was decided that it was probably a good idea to get a lift and scrub.

After the scrub we popped out in an extremely windy and choppy Solent to confirm that she was back to her former 'punchy' self!

With a big head wind and against some nasty chop we reached 35knts in a flash before we turned round and beat a hasty retreat back to the marina.

Job done...

Here are some pictures.

It might not look it but it was blowing a hooley so it was quite interesting getting her in to the slings.

I don’t care what anyone says - when your boat starts lifting out of her habitat your stomach twists a bit

Praise the lord for jet wash machines (and thanks to the guys holding it of course).

Sat in the slings.

Back where she belongs!

I am so glad that the lack of power was simply down to a dirty hull and drives and actually thoroughly enjoyed the day!!

Nice looking boat there A, it appears to have a piece out of the port prop, or is that an optical illusion?

The workboat must have been a pita to get around just in front of the slings.

Wow, those drives didnt look like that when i fitted them back on!

You were just going out the channel as we were going in the Lymington river, as yes it was certainly pissing with rain, I helmed from downstairs all the way from ocean village.

Its time for a hardtop sports cruiser for me.

my Hardy reach 26.4knots wot (sorry, I know I keep going on about it, still amuses me my tug went that fast) ) 30 minutes after she was ploped back in the wet stuff after layup. Now she will just do 22knts. To be honest that is fine for me as I cruise everywhere at around 16knts... but still surprised at the growth on my trim tabs, but then looking at those outdrives... wow, what a load of growth compared with the hull that looks pretty clean?.
I took my trim tabs back to stainless steel this year, primed them (used international primerco? primco? something like that) and put 3 coats of interspeed ultra. Now most of it has come off leaving patches and a load of weed that I regularly am trying to brush off...... I am planning to leave boat in the water over much of the winter and hope to keep using upto Christmas, then lift out for a few weeks Jan/feb time... but I think i will /should invest in a lift and scrub and probably put another coat of antifoul on the trim tabs in the meantime...

it really is hard to imagine that abit of growth can knock over 10knts off the speed.
glad you got it sorted with out it being a major problem at fault.

have you ever thought of putting an ultrasonic set up on your boat.cost about a grand for a vessel your size and does away with those hull paints.

Yes, that is on the wish list although I have to say that the list is pretty extensive so in real terms it probably wont be fitted to this boat (during my ownership anyway)!!

Was the hull already pressure washed by the time you took the photo with the drives still fairly fouled? If yes, did the hull have as much growth as the drives?

How long since your last lift/scrub. That kind of drop in wot speed must be quite costly in terms of fuel usage.

Nice boat...
