For the THIRD consecutive weekend I have to be away in London so cannot go to the boat. I know it's cold, but I would just LOVE to be going down to the marina tomorrow. Anyone want to make me jealous and tell me what you're going to do this wekend? Anyway, NOTHING, BUT NOTHING will keep me away next weekend - even if it's force 107 I'm going out!!!

Oh dear Barry, what can I say?? I'll be in Pwllheli tomorrow - a lovely big marina full of boats and just full of boaty things. I will be putting the new decalls on my Windy ready for re-launch. Mmmm, the smell of spring is in the air!!

Having a few drinks courtesy of the staff at Hayling Yacht Co, so that you get a bit merry and then bid in the charity auction. Then probably claning off the bottom of the hull prior to antifouling. In the cold, and wet.

Hello Longjohn!!

Yes, you are quite right. The engineer managed to repair the transom shield by building it up with aluminuim weld and milling and machining it back to shape - £120!!! - and do loads of other things besides. I also had GRProClean to clean all the boat - inside and out, and it looks like it has just come out of Earl's Court ( or should that be ExCel). I have also anti-fouled it with Trilux.

Yep, its been a busy time and I cannot recommend the engineer more highly. His name is Rob walker (Harbour Marine Engineering Services - Pwllheli) and inspite of the fact he is only 25 years old, he is old beyond his years when it comes to boats - which incidentally, he was brought up on.

I doubt it will be ready for re-launch this weekend, but certainly by next. I am going over tomorrow to fit the new decalls for her name. "Coney Island" is now a fine looking machine!

Hi,
Well in theory your local chemist can order you some. Some will , some won't. Allegedly it is also available from Aladdins Cave but before I found that out I ordered some from a company that specializes in the ingredients for cosmetics. Name escapes me but do a search on Lanolin and it will show a posting that I started on March 7th. The company I ordered from was provided by "Penfold". The theory is that lanolin on the props will prevent barnacles and other fouling.
Last year, at around the end of June I found a lot of fouling on our duoprop and after scraping it off I daubed it with lard and at the end of the season it was as clean as a whistle. However, someone on here suggested that nearly all barnacle growth takes place in the Spring and early Summer so perhaps my trial was not the success that I had thought.

Others said that they had used Lanolin with equal success.
So next week one prop will be daubed with lanolin the other with lard and we'll see what happens this season.

You will see if you do the search the various comments made about Lanolin over the last year or so.
As to how you apply it I'm going to do it with a paint brush if it is liquid enough, if not then I will daub it on with a cloth in the same way as the lard. I think some people said it should then be heated up and polished but I'm too idle to do that. Sounds too technical anyway - probably set fire to the transom/forums/images/icons/blush.gif

Don't you believe a word of it, barnacles will grow at any time, and they grow faster the warmer the water gets. Time of year makes no difference.

Mind you that could explain why our radio aerial keeps snagging in the mud and the Eagle transducer on the wheelhouse roof doesn't work very well I suppose.

I would recommend Rob, but I am not going to, why? Because he never has a day off, never. The guy is going to give himself a hernia, I tell him every time I see him to go on holiday or somesuch.

Really though excellent service, he seated and aligned my stbd engine in 2002 as I was running out of time pre launch after she was laid up. I also bought my 2nd hand old mercury o/b from him, which is still going strong.

Now located next to Dickies in Pwllheli. If you need any work carried out on your engines I would call him first.

I'm not sure about that one?? My impression is not, but I could be wrong. Try calling him, even if he can't help directly (until 18 months anyway) he knows someone who will do a good job.
