I have one. It doesn't pump (yup, there's water in the bilge!). Googling suppliers' descriptions say its self priming. A diaphram fault ....probably nothing else to go wrong? Tks.
I've just overhauled my Gusher (oohh errr!)
FIRST time round, I just used the service kit, ignoring (a triumph of hope over expectation) the fact that the outlet valve seat was corroded and that there was not enough meat left on the threads of the screw-holes holding the plate down to torque down enough fora a good seal with the gasket alone.
It didn't work.
NOW I have rebuilt the thing, having reground the outlet valve face and sealed potential leak-paths with goop.
It works, but I won't trust it for another season.
If the diaphragm is not obviously perished and is not making sucking noises when you operate it - then most likely to be the seal of one or other flap-valve is the problem. (mine wheezed asthmatically - probably air bypassing the back of the outlet valve seat)
You might be lucky - I took mine apart once and found a BIC lighter jammed in the inlet valve - could be a similar problem?
Neoprene dissolved by oil? I guess the company I work for has a good 20,000 plus compressors to recall 'cos neoprene is standard! You can go up-market, viton, kalrez etc. but it's generally the gas that reacts - not the oil.
[ QUOTE ]
are they all neoprene = dissolved by oil, or nitrile, and how can you tell the difference?
[/ QUOTE ] Neoprene was devloped as an oil resistant substitute for natural rubber. Nitrile rubbers have a higher resistance 'tis true and normally used in contact with fuels.
How to tell apart: By the label on the packet but maybe a Beilstein test.
Agree the s/steelmachine bolts have corroded the mounting brackets and there's no sucking or farting noises. As this is a secondary (& manual)and thus redundant pump I have today removed it. As I can't advertise on this site, rightfully, I therefore offer free of charge one Pump, requiring attention, I need only p & p from Spain - say GBP35.00 (postage is expensive!!!). Thank you all contributors.
I had a problem with mine not working last year. Took the pump apart and turned out it was just a stray piece of cable tie stopping the diaphram from working properly. Once removed it all worked perfectly again.
