A groundbreaking ceremony was held today for the start of the shore works. The project manager (Fritz Christoffersen) was interviewed on Essex Radio. He said that work on the foundations for the 48 turbines would start in February and be completed by September 2009. The interesting question was what was the anticipated life of the wind farm. He said they had leased the land from the Crown Estates for 20 years and expected it to last at least that long. He wasn't asked, and didn't say, what would happen when their lease expired or whether they would remove all the debris.

So the chart you just bought for the Sunk scheme will soon be out of date again. More hazards on the East coast /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I for one have found sailing by the windmills up at Great Yarmouth, especially at daybreak, to be quite a surreal experience. 20 years doesn't seem very long !!

Don't say that young man, have some thought for the sensitivities of your elders /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

i would imagine that the same planning resrictions will apply to the wind turbines that apply to oil rigs.

Once the field has stopped producing gas or oil as the case may be,the companys are required to level them back to bottom level

We had a hoot in the southern North sea about 25 years ago, blowing up finished old well heads for amaco.A standard galvanised metal bucket was the perfect shape for the charges,we just placed the bucket inside the well head then got back on deck and big bang no well head /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

looking at the chart, there a huge windfarm ear marked for the sea off of skegness,i presume that the reasons for so many wind farms off of the eastern coast is that its relatively shallow and being out at sea means there is very little interfearance from houses etc, they will also have an effect on sand banks due to the scouring of the sea bed

At least we will be able to miss the sand banks by just avoiding the wind farms!

I like the thinking !
