Gull Repeller

here's another "cheepy" idea.

Costs about £9squid, and can be hoisted like a burgee.

from good farm suppliers anywhere. Very "green" as it's electricity consumption is, err, nil.

I have never been able to understand why some yachtsmen think seagulls are supposed to fear owls.

Do gulls know what an owl is? And if they did would they care?

I would have thought that any seagull would make short work of an owl if it came to a fight.

Some marinas here play wounded seagull noises through a PA system to keep the rest of the gulls away. It's quite effective, and keeps the boats clean.

Anything is better than my attempt, set a line of tin foil strips tied to fishing wire strung across the boat so that they all flapped and whizzed around in the wind, that afternoon a big fat gull swooped down onto the cockpit canopy, yanked it off and flew away with the whole lot to a roar of laughter from the crew next door /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Absolutely correct! In fact history shows the Seagulls dispatching the Owls in the 1983 FA Cup semi final /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Had a guy in the marina at Falmouth had one on his boat. Irritating as hell when you're woken up at stupid o'clock by his sodding bird scarer. It was OK for him, he'd buggered off home. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Here in Norway we have found that the 2-3ft long rubber snakes kids buy from joke shops work very effectively, especially in bright colours i.e.red or yellow. just lay a few on the coachroof or deck and they seagulls will go somewhere else, and they're cheap too.
My friends use them to keep seagulls off their patio as they live right by the sea.

Shoot one from time to time.
Lob it on the foredeck.
They smell a bit after about 2 days depending on climate.
Renew regularly.
Keeps the population down and the feckers away!
