We are cruising South Brittany this year. I shall need to leave Aliz Motte (Rival 34) in Gulf de Morbihan or nearby for about 8 weeks. Can anyone recommend a boatyard or marina. Price is a factor and it would help if they spoke English as my French is weak.

Many thanks.

Eric

I'd say there are 3 options - the awful, hyper modern soul-less marina at the mouth, Auray or Vannes. My choice would be vannes - you are locked in, and safe from ny weather, and on the mainline rail network.

Hi!
Totally agree! Have left my boat in Vannes twice and she was very well looked after by the staff. When she had to be moved to help another yacht with problems, she was properly secured, fendered and even hosed down!!

Good value for money too!

Good sailing!

Villaine River

If you can get further down to the Villaine river - 30 km up stream is Redon - the cheapest place in france in Summer. Redon is 2 stops from Paris on the TGV which is walking distance. Beautiful trip up the river which is deep and wide - with cows grazing onthe banks.

For complete weather safety I'd say Vannes or pop up the Villiane to Redon ( check your air height against the power cables which are not marked on every publication)
Vannes is good for ferry at St Malo by hire car (£50 last time i did it do not rush and take the D roads much better you see the real France) or Redon for TGV and Eurostar.

Vannes is nice but if you're facing the eastern wall be aware the wc there can become what used to be called a 'cottage' at night. Eugh!
