A very good friend has asked my opinion on this...

Anybody here know the company. More info here...

Just look at the price, USD 550K = EU380K
Now look at the spec.

Similar spec Phantom 50 runs to about E800K

Gulf Craft is about 5 tons lighter.
Has D9 engines as opposed to D12s - coz she's lighter I spoze.

Build not on a par with UK / Italian yards but not 420K difference surely.

He really likes this boat so what advise would you give?

Looks a nice looking boat for the money for sure, I would like to know a little more about the structure and lay up though, to loose five tons out of a boat that size is quite a percentage and one wonders where they have been able to shed such a large amount of weight. Could well be of course they are using some very trick vacum infusion and core construction but I see no mention of that in the specs which I would expect to see given that it would be a big selling points. Good points are that builders that direction are very good with joinery and highly skilled and certainly what one can see looks top notch.

Down side I see is what it is worth down the line being an unknown badge, peeps this side of the pond are very conservative with regards to brand and are extremely loyal and will keep trading up through the marque. Some of it is just historic and some unfounded as they can drop just as much as anything else in real terms but that brand awareness and loyalty is hard to overcome so I would be expecting it would be hard to move on. Having said that the Irish market is slightly different and brand is not such a huge consideration as you guys don't have any big builders that dominate the market and are more used to seeing new stuff so it may not matter as much. Have seen a few in the Med and a couple of the bigger ones too. Not sure they have quite got the mouldings spot on design wise some parts are a bit slab sided and 'squared'.

After all that it is still a matter of choice and if it stacks up in your favour and the money is right then Bob's your uncle its certainly alot of boat for your money. Don't forget to add about £15k for transport though also duty and tax.

Hope that doesn't put your freind off just my take on it and others might have a diffenet view just know it would weigh on my mind if it was something I was asked to trade, but then I am seeing from a different perspective and not as one parting with the cash and if you get all you want for lots of spondulies less why not /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

PS, I am assuming you know they are built in the UAE and branded Majesty Yachts

Yip, I agree with most of your points but there is a huge price difference even taking transport, duty and VAT.

What about EU certification?

I tend to recommend Olisinski (sp?) hulls as I personally think that they are pretty spot on for Irish Sea boating.

Again, Gulf Craft can't match that imho but can't possibly be ignored by a family who like to venture out when the sea is calm, use the boat as a wekend retreat, don't want to spend EU800K and really only want to buy a new boat.

BTW - Is she not a similar weight to Sealine T50?

Exactly, and one weighs one against the other, price V's brand and ability etc. I see nothing wrong with her for what your friend has in mind and will make a great family retreat and lots of fun times on the water.

Sealine T50 is a good comparison weight wise but one would need to drive one first before deciding on its sea keeping abilities, perhaps a sea trial would sway your friend one way or the other. In the end thee are no really bad boats these days and often the differences in performance and ability are quite small but the mags make a deal out of it cus it sells copies.

Your correct though Olenski has the edge performance wise in bigger flybridge's for roughty conditions although not always on all his designs but a consistant designer nonetheless.

They must be CE marked as they have a dealer I think in Belgium.

Just had a thought, if your friend is not too bothered about the badge maybe consider one of these, Numarine 54 and built in Turkey by peeps that build the pearl 50. Nice quality and well finished, she is vacum infused and core construction and very high tech build, they got their infusion system before Azimut did so quite skilled with the technology. Probably cost a little more than the above but still much cheaper than current crop flybridges. Did have a sea trial in one and would say there is little in it between Olenski and this.

Food for though anyway.

Nautical - KC...

Interesting options which I will pass on - thanks.

KC, my friend has commented (more than once) on various American boats, good value with the current exchange rates etc. Please keep them coming if you have any more.

Regards,
SV.

Have looked over a couple of Gulf Craft boats in Dubai and been fairly unimpressed by the build quality and styling. Externally they're Azimut clones, internally they're a bit dated and cheap in places (see pics 12 and 13...cheap plastic bathroom and bizarre placement of entertainment systems).

Gulf boats tend to be fairly flat-bottomed, too, so I don't know how it would be in the wavey stuff. Not sure about resale value, either.

But it is cheap, if you can call £265,000 cheap.

Cheers Tom,

Very usefull stuff. I had heard somewhere that boats manufactured in the Gulf region were shallow draft design?

Stands to reason I spoze.

I'll have a look at the specs again.

I spoke with my buddy today and he is as keen as mustard to get down there and have a shufty.

Looking at these FB's has made me come over all funny, don't know what it is, I some how feel the need to smoke a pipe and I am finding M&S slippers look really attractive in fact I think I am going for the whole look, I mean Farah's, hush puppies the whole nine yards /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
