Guess whats new

DSC05571_Small_zps7a9ff296.jpg

Morning everyone

Two things going on in the photo

Yes - They are new Lumishores - coloured, surface mounted units.
I'm hoping that two will be enough because there isn't really a suitable space for any more on the transom.
These surface mounted ones need a flat surface and the only flat part of our Princess is where they are currently fitted.
I also need to be able to get to the inside of the transom and, again this was the only place I can get to.
It seems that Lumishore units are brighter than most so maybe they will be OK
We are planning another trip to Mallorca in a few months so this should be a great place to see how well they work.
We relaunched JW yesterday evening so I will wire them up and take a few pics on the berth - we have a couple of feet clearance on our home pontoon at the back of the bathing platform.

The other thing going on in the photo is the underwater metalwork.
This year, I've just cleaned and polished the props, rudders, trim tabs and shafts.
I then emptied two and a half tins of this stuff over them

A recommendation from guys on this forum.
Spraying only took about 15 mins.
Is this the answer to barnacle treatment that we are all looking for or is it just another "snake oil"

PEJ
There were new anodes fitted but on these thrusters, they form a cap on the end of the thruster shafts.
Bit different from yours- If I remember correctly, your thruster anodes screw into the thruster gearbox drain plug.

Bit mean only to have 2, Hurricane, but I suppose it's what you might call low key bling. Now you'll be able to see all those jellyfish before you plunge in for your romantic midnight dip:)

I guess our posts crossed - see above - I can't really add any more - all the surfaces between the ones I've fitted are curved and not accessible from inside.

Actually I only had 2 on my previous boat and providing you scrub off the barnacles occasionally, 2 is fine if all you want is to illuminate the water for night time swimming. Of course, in the bling stakes, 2 is nowhere:D
Looking forward to your hearing about your experience with the latest snake oil and whether you can attain the holy grail of a whole season of Med boating without having the props cleaned

Two lights will be fine Mike, we only have two of the SMX150 the same as yours, and still get a huge pool of light behind the boat. With them spaced quite far apart you'll get a triangle of shadow in the middle (ooh err, more tea vicar) next to the stern, but I doubt it'll bother you

We've had a bit of a breakthrough with the stern gear with Velox Plus. It was put on last May, and i'm only a knot down after 100 hours and nearly a year later. The stern gear looks almost spotless, so the knot may be due to trim tabs heavily fouled and a bit of algae on the hull. I think you tried Velox in the past, did it not work as well for you? JFM lifted Match2 recently so should be giving an update on the TK Line some time soon.

Alas no. I put TK on when the boat was brand new, May 2013. I then did a quick lift September 2013 just before Cannes boat show and TK's performance was AMAZING, the holy grail imho, and I posted pictures at the time. The props were acid washed anyway by the yard (I forgot to tell them not to) so the TK was lost at that point, and when I hauled out last week the props were all barnacled again having had September 13-April 14 with no TK on them. I just put a full can of TK on each prop last week ready for this season, so I'm hoping for more good results this season. I'm perfectly synched with Hurricane and will get pictures later this year

Well M, I could tell what's new. I' m sure you will both enjoy! Did you fit them yourself?

I updated mine last week as well ( well if I didn't who would?:) and despite the valued naysayers on this thread you really need at least 6 ;) I have although I still don't have quite the output of JFM

Nick H has exactly the same set up as you but slightly closer --- the lights do have a 90-degree beam angle though.

Pan Shame on you ;) (only kidding!) But JFM is right, those aren't ours ( as you know!) -- much narrower beam and have a 'flare' in the centre.

Probably xenon. I'm really getting sad but could probably name make and model ( well at least I MIGHT be able to be better at me2 at that, but Id better not challenge him!)
