Guernsey to Torquay Weather window

You often get some nice high pressure systems sat across the UK for a while in winter - which will give calm, if cold (and maybe foggy) settled weather. You'll probably see one before Christmas - but whether it will be long enough to let things settle enough for a 27 footer, who knows....

I've had some fantastic smooth runs in December, including collecting the Elling from Holland and taking her to Guernsey. Completely flat all the way down the channel - just incredible.

Whats the chances of a decent weather window to bring a 27' Formula to Torquay from Guernsey before Christmas ?

Slight fred rift sorry - but after weeks of windy weather, it is flat as a pancake here in Brighton today. Greatly aided my passage from the boatyard back to pontoon 8. :D

Cheers
Jimmy

Have to agree with the others - sometimes a nice high pressure builds and that settles the lot down.

Fab clear days and no wind at all. Cold as hell but what ho! lets go!

Watch the barometer and look at the dew point for fog.

We look SSE over Lyme Bay and the seas yesterday were horrendous.
The wind also picked up today after nearly flay calm this morning.

Yesterday, we had tankers arriving at our side of the bay - just to shelter.
One even had trouble rigging the ladder for the Brixham Pilot.

I'd leave any channel crossing until the sea has flattened for at least a few days.

Flat calm in the Russel first thing this morning. Drove boat from QE2 to St Sampsons this afternoon and it was coming up quickly. Not pleasant! Now S 5 gusting 7. That was the weather window! Doesn't look settled for a while now, but Metcheck is showing a glimmer of hope weekend after next. After the diabolical last 4 weeks we're due a nice settled spell over Christmas.

I have a spectacular photo I took in the Gouliot Passage (pancake flat) January 5th this year (one day I'll check out how to post photos) so chances are if you can move quickly you'll find a slot. Good luck.

Yep, Ive been waiting for a weather window for a channel crossing since begining of November, Thought today might be hopeful, but it was so short lived it wasent worht the risk. Looks like I wont get across now for at least another week.

From my experience December has often proved unsettled and windy, but Feb last year saw us get across to Guernesy and had a fab few days. However my crossing is a must for December so I can only hope.
