Guard rail Fixings

My guard rails are fixed with a stainless pin with a hole and a split pin. These split pins are a nightmare. We have had ripped clothes and shredded sheets from them. I want to replace them with a double sided screw similar to the one in the photo and iuse some locktight. I have seen them used on an upmarket yacht (Oyster or Hylas I can't remember) but I don't know what they are called and can't seem to work out where they are from. I have found some on-line but they are Stainless 306 and I am not sure that is good enough. Does anyone know of a supply of marine grade fixings?I have never had this problem with previous boats it just seems to be something to do with the design that causes the split pins top get bent out into sharp spikes.

Why not just use a 316 split ring or cotter ring. Problem solved.

cover with a couple of turns of white self-amalgamating tape?

Tape them. Or a small piece of plastic pipe to cover the section.
