Guadiana music weekend

Thought Paul or Ludd would have turned up on here with an update on how the weekend went by now. Perhaps they are still in recovery mood :D
The river grapevine brought news that the ''Artistes' were revolting against all forms of leadership :D and then it started raining, monsoon rain's so perhaps it was cancelled.

Will we ever know ? :D

I should really leave this to Paul, but since his time is a bit more limited, here goes! Friday night was cancelled due to torrential rain,so we all went to ethe pub and got slightly inebriated!
Saturday night we had Portuguese music , followed by an expat semi -pro group, followed by GONZALO,a young Portuguese lad, who sang in Portuguese and in English. The whole performance was reduced to mediocrity by the self styled "professionals" who cocked the sound system up royally. Really a shame!
On the Sunday night, however , the true amateurs ,with their own sound engineer, blew their socks off----not my judgement,I was performing---but in the opinion of everyone there.
We learned a lot, and thanks to Paul and Rogerio in the Riverside(who must have made a fortune!) I have no doubt we'll do it better next year. For example,we will hjave control over the sound mixing, and we will not try to have separate evenings for local and expat performances. We will try to start earlier ,while the air is still warm, for the sake of the punters.
Sunday evening,we started at 1800 and played till midnight, then danced till about 0230 (I think!)
Sunday night was videod ,so once that is sorted out,it may well appear on here,so you will be able to judge for youselves.

Howdy Ludd

So not a complete wash-out then. Shame about the pro- Artiste's, they can be a temperamental bunch can't they :D.

Better luck next year. Suggest you post the dates on here a tad earlier ! !

Have a good winter on the river.

Cheers ,Sandy! Yes ,late notice was part of the problem, but we were unlucky with the weather. I've just checked my last 3 years logs-----3rd weekend October wet every year! We need a rethin

What are you on Ludd. I agree the sound system on Saturday wasnt up to much - but can´t agree with the mediocracy bit´- and I don´t think Sunday was any better - most were good, but what about those who can´t sing in tune and shouldn´t go near a stage? So, saying the amateurs were better wasn´t actually the opinion of everybody there. Both nights were on a par and I don´t think slagging off some excellent musicians will help the event thrive on the next occasion.

Gawd blimey you're for it now Ludd :D

If you see them wheeling a cannon down from the fort you know they mean business :D

You may well have to repel boarders so best stay Alcoutim side of the river. :D

No doubt banned from the book swap as well:D

It's alright,I've already left. Gone somewhere where I'm allowed to have an opinion---:p

As a matter of interest,I DIDN'T mean to belittle the musicians of Saturday night---the problem ,as I said ,was in the sound mixing and production. Listen to the excerpt on the Camara de Alcoutim Facebook page, you'll see what I mean.
Telling people everything was wonderful is hardly going to do the event much good----it will thrive on criticism. That's the only way to improvement.

P.S I know I sing out of tune----but I get by with a little help from my friends!

What friends,indeed!
Besides,how would you know----you're s---=-tone deaf!
Out to dinner in Vila Real tonight, with one of my adoring ( female,I hasten to add!!!) fans, then upriver tmoro a.m. to catch the Sunday stroll (about 18km) next morning. No doubt will be hung ,drawn and quartered on my return --BEFORE being stuck on a butcher's hook!:(
