OMG, the Spanish Government has just legalised Airb&b style rentals for private boats!!! Imagine if the UK Government did this, aged sailors might actually burst with red faced indignation. AAARGH!

I sense a business opportunity opening for a certain Galician gentleman seeking to get afloat?

People zipping around in 3 hulled boats like they have to get somewhere quickly get my goat. Don't they realise sailing is all about unhurried relaxation and so what if it takes all day to do 50 miles? There's no rush.

At least if they are dangling from the pushpit they have bothered to remove them from the sides of the boat. Sailing with fenders rigged is a real NO NO for me.

I once heard that you should be wary of any boat that sports 5 unmatched fenders of indeterminate heritage( and nomenclature).

So in a sense with all the clobber hanging off the back, what you see is what you get?

I find, now that I have reached extreme old age, that I grow less grumpy as time passes.

Fenders dangling over the side and bouncing about in the breeze is way too Romford Navy in my view. Mine get stowed out of sight the moment I leave the pontoon.

You should keep your fenders in place until you leave the port...the fenders aren’t just to protect you from the pontoon but also against close encounters with other boats which can happen in port

Agree about dangling fenders, I once heard them described as "hanging off the back of the boat like a bunch of hemorrhoids".

I did a classics regatta, one boat had two large red fenders hanging at the pulpit
.later in the bar, the owner was describing his boat and one of my crew mates came out with " oh yes, the dog's b*llocks boat".

In another place it has been suggested that we have a safe haven for old codgers to moan over the demise of good taste. Well here it is.

Let me kick things off quietly with - dangling fenders off the pushpit.
They make a boat look like a bag ladies pram and announce to the world that your boat has three bedrooms, kitchen and a butler's pantry but no cockpit lockers.
I am sure we can all agree on this.

I’ve always admired the French attitude, enthusiasm and support for their sailing.

That Gallic shrug could oft accompany a dangling Gauloise and a cafe fin..and a boat load of topless women crew popping out of the hatches with insouciance
