Grrrrrrr scumbags operating in Hayling Island

If they are caught and if it were up to me they would be branded with a "T" (for thief) on the forehead. They would then carry this mark, for all to see, for the rest of their lives.

I t hunk I prefer the chopping off of hands.

Sorry about that Mark. Same thing happened to me when I first launched Peregrine and had her on a swinging mooring off Emsworth reach. Thats what made me move mainly. I lost a radar (taken without the transponder of course so NBG to anyone) and a stereo radio. Both replaced by insurance for better kit (as I hope yours will be) but it's still very upsetting. School holidays in my case....... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I notice that nobody has linked up with the two " poor lads" who decided at 0200 to go out for a dinghy sail.We should sympathise with these "poor unfortunates" who due to a childhood of deprivation and lack of love feel that a communist attitude to other peoples property is their right. If you lock it they will steal the b....dy lock as well.
Bring back the birch and the village stocks.Maybe deportation as well.
Social workers please do NOT post any comments

If they catch up with them,
I think, they should be 'made to volunteer' for all medical and non medcal experiments, the really nasty ones ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Very sorry to hear that.

Who actually knocks the stuff, and are they necessarily junkies, or socially deprived youngsters? I mean, a lot of the stuff that forumites have had stolen seems to be specialised stuff, and I sometimes wonder if some of our yottie/stinkie neighbours are a bit light fingered.

The only thing that we've lost was a decent set of ladders (can't remember the cost, £80-£100?), chained and padlocked to the mast. Discussion with the staff at the site revealed that, on several occasions, they've positively identified their own ladders (the judicious use of paint marks) - with a boat's name painted freshly painted on them.

Thank you all for your responces.

Not asgreat weeken this, spent this morning replacing fence panels instead of down at the boat - but did get there this afternoon - where further inspection revealed further missing items. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Did at least make a start on replacing my gas lines (using rather nice thick wall and pvc covered pipe)

Very Very sorry to hear ...

I know the boat and appreciate the care and TLC you have put into her ....

I had my boat broken into some years ago and I never lost that feeling that someone else had been there ....

HI has normally been reasonably safe from such ... but nothing is sacred anymore.

I hope that Insurnace Cover is good and don't forget - what Boat Insurance doesn't cover - House Contents usually does ... I know cause that's how I got most of my stuff replaced .....
Another thing I found was that I could use value to ..... meaning that as long as my replacement costs stayed to value agreed with ins. - I could have any item even different !! It's a matter of agreeing with shop ......

I found House Contents so easy and understanding ... they literally just asked which shop(s) I would like to use to replace gear ... they then informed shop to bill them direct. Boat Ins. though was another matter ..... argument and compromise that left a bad taste ......

Good luck and don't give in ... Ins. will try anything to cut their costs ....

Strengthened hatches ??

Have you seen a boat after a chainsaw has been at it ? I have and I am one who says NOT to strengthen ..... Do enough to deter the amateur .... but the pro wanting his Boat Jumble gear will get in one way or another ....

Gear can be replaced .... washboards easy to re-make .... main bulkheads ??? different matter altogether !

Re: Strengthened hatches ??

Funnilly enough, I wonder sometimes if we (insurers) have got it wrong on security precautions. The number of times I have paid in excess of £5k for repairs for a break in that would only have been worth less than £1k is significant. On the other hand, if you don't stop people getting in then you'll get a rash of squatters, as happened to a couple of my clients last year.

Will be sending my deposit of to Wilson's tomorrow by the way.
