GRP riverboat, unfinished: estimated price of completion?

Glad to hear he is decided.

I have come to the conclusion that getting almost ANY boat back to a reasonable condition will cost between £10K - £20K.

I speak from limited experence.

My quite tidy at the time of purchase cost less than £3k. IF I could have done all the work myself (i.e given up work and started my own boat building project co) I could have got away with £8K. Bring in experts to help and even with a lot of time invested, its about £20K of stuff and labour.

I see restoring a project as a bit like paying for my boat in installments, instead of starting with a new-ish boat and paying monthly with interest, I started with an old one and buy the things it needs a bit at a time - but it ends up costing about the same.

Like the loan, there is interest, just a diferent sort.

My buddy got a tax refund, and told me he'd found a boat for sale...

...setting aside the fact that I really wouldn't want that boat, how much more than the £1100 asking price might the fit-out, engine checks and installation cost my mate? I get the feeling it's no bargain.

My best advice is keep any tax refund in the bank! As the taxman has an awfull habit of asking for it back some months later!:D
