is anyone out there using Bp's new grp LPG gas bottles, they seem to the bee's knees from a weight point of view, are there any issues with them and is it possible to refill them like a normal bottle (decanting)

Regards Rach.

Don't have them ourselves but met a couple of boats with them. there have been some problems getting refilled on this side of the Caribbean. The gas stations just have never seen them before and don't believe they are safe!
On the plus side they are nice and light and you can see clearly how much gas you have left!

We have 2 and are happy with them for weight and visual inspection.
The only thing I have an issue with is the steel sleeve that the valve threads into the top, there is rust corrosion in less than a year.
I have treated this rust with CorrosionX inhibitor. will keep you posted as the cylinder life is quoted as 15 years.
Otherwise very happy.

Butagaz Cube

I've been using these for 8 years.

They're made of glass-reinforced polypropylene.

Weight full of 6kg of butane the same as Camping Gaz with only 2.8-3.0 litres. No rusting... no problems.

They have a special connector, so impossible to fill in the way you describe.

For me, only problem is that they're only available in France and Portugal

I would like to replace my existing steel bottles with these GRP ones, BUT, do they do them with the type that lay on the side, ie horizontal 10lb ones? I would love to do this before we leave the Caribbean for the UK as my existing bottles may be to corroded to be refilled in the UK. An suggestions?

The Texaco station here in Barbados appear to be capable of filling just about any type of gas cylinder - I have taken quite a variety there over the years (from visiting yachts that crossed the pond), and they have yet to be stumped...... I hope that they will be able to fill the '907' ones as well.
