I need to buy some bronze gripfast nails but they all seem to be quoted in gauge & I don't know what that equates too.Can somebody tell me what gauge 1/8" or 3mm is?

Not sure whether screw gauge is the same but screw gauge 5 is 3.18mm or 0.125 of an inch.

Maybe you didn't scroll down far enough - Gripfast come in even gauges only - I doubt you can get 11 gauge.
Try Classic Marine - a good source for old-fashioned boat bits.

Just a personal opinion but.......... I hate (with a passion) grip nails. My deck was put down using them and they are a devil to get out without causing damage.
Personally I would prefer to use bronze screws, at least you can remove them if you need to.

Have you tried ANGLIA STAINLESS? They have always done me proud for fastenings in brass and bronze.

Thanks for all the generous assistance.
I am using them to bolster the glued seem in my old mast that has come unstuck for about 6 feet below the cross trees.
Should be ok once I squirt some glue in there & clobber in a few of these nails.
I am not planning to redo it any time soon!

Sorry, but that sounds a pretty horrible repair for a mast; Better to clean out the old glue back to bare wood and use pox? and no nails?

The seam is only open about a 1/16" so it won't be that easy to make a perfect joint.I plan to scrape it out as well as possible & then squirt in some araldite.
The nails should add increased security spaced out about eight inches apart on alternate sides of the mast.
Trust me I am a doctor.

Agree. Clean the split line out and glue back with epoxy. Nails should be unnecessary and once they are in you will never move them if it splits again.

If the split/gap is not big enough, one might run a circular saw along a battern to open it up, followed by thickened epoxy. Nails, of any type, will not improve on that.
