Grill pan Handles

Due to circumstances too complicated to explain fully, but which involved burnt fingers and some salty language, the handle for our grill-pan for a Plastimo Neptune Coral stove now lies at the bottom of Rothesay harbour.

I have e-mailed Plastimo for advice, but if anyone knows if it is possible to get a replacement I would be eternally grateful for their insights.

Take a 8" piece of wood about 3/4 " by 3/4 " and whittle a groove about 1/8" square on the top about 1/2 " back from one end. This should be fettled to fit, sanded down and then givennn the obligatory 20 coats of deksoyl , or just varnish it or stain it.

You can improve the longevity by reinforcing the sides with a bit of aluminium or brass strip bent over the end and then epoxy'd to re-inforce the groove and stop the top splitting off

If no ally or brass or s/s then cut a strip off your next tin of beans and wrap a bit of that around.

Use the remaining bits of the bean can to make new clothes peg supports.

Not familiar with your design but due to having a fixed (screwed-in) handle to my grill pan it was a pain to stow.

Threw handle away and replaced it with an 'L' shaped scissor grip handle in alloy from a kitchenware shop.

Result- pan can be stowed easily and handle is only attached to lift in and out so it doesn't get hot while grilling.

Solution for you maybe??

Caravan shops and even Lakeland sell replacement small grill pans complete for around £13, not cheap but avoids hassle.

None was supplied with my Smev and I spent a lot of time trying to find something suitable. Ended up using an oven glove. Much safer.

I contacted Plastimo and they referred me to the Southampton Calor Gas centre. Spoke with them and the part is on its way for around £7.00.

I tried the local caravan centre but the grill pan they had was a different size and shape. Again thanks for the help - much appreciated.

Hopefully you'll be as impressed with their service as I am....... I ordered an additional oven shelf from them Saturday afternoon (on line) and it arrived at 09h00 this morning....
