"The James Stevens No. 14 was the Walton on the Naze lifeboat from 1900 to 1928, saving 227 lives during a total of 126 call-outs"
Now that's an interesting statistic, an average of 1.8 lives saved per call out. I wonder how that compares to more recent vessels. I am sure there are a variety of explanations for what I feel sure would be a far lower rate.
Just happened to be passing on Saturday, to clarify the claim at the launch event was that she's the oldest surviving motorised lifeboat.

Saw her out today, very nice she looks too. Really surprising how low the freeboard is and that she's mainly flush decked, with a small cockpit - really impressive to imagine being at see in that in bad weather!
