My small boat (Cornish Shrimper) has a grey sticky rubber material as a gasket/backing between shroud plates and hull and behind stemhead fitting. Any idea what it is and where I can buy some?
I think the material you are describing is used behind fittings on caravans and I used to have a roll of it which came from a caravan dealer spares dept.
These tacky, strip sealants were made by the likes of Arbo Sealants and Bostik, the material may have been butyl rubber, for use in construction/ assembly industries etc. They probably still exist but may now be less available for a retail customer to obtain, as cartridge materials have taken over. Best shot might be an Engineers' Suppliers. As an alternative, could you use a silicone or sikaflex type of setting mastic?
