Yep - it had to happen.
Maybe I'm the first with a Mavic

We are in Ibiza at the moment.
Had a good cruise down the west coast - managed to get a few good drone flights.
Moved on to Saona on the west of Formentera and disaster happened.

I had been getting IMU errors which I put down to not having a stable take off site.
Placing the drone on the bathing platform seemed to solve the issues.
But in the fateful mission, I got lazy and didn't watch the take off.
Instead I sat in the cockpit expexting it to pop into view as it left the bathing platform.
Instead, it lurched to the adjacent dinghy chock and bounced into the water.
Like a flash, SWIMBO followed it.
Retrieved it before it had got a metre deep.
We tried drying it out but it is dead.

So I'm now in the market for a new Mavic.
There seems to be a spare parts package that includes just the drond/battery combo.

On the plus side, I do have some good footage to work with for later in the year.

Shame though, I was hoping to get some good running shots this year.

As said on another thread, maybe we should have a "Drone Lost at Sea Club"

Not a club I would voluntarily wish to join... :-(

Dronesforless might be a good port of call for the base drone, but chuck that battery away, it's potentially a fire hazard not it's been wet!

The old drone will have a value, or be Ebay fodder, so not a total loss. Never fly it again, it could do anything now, as I'm sure you already know!

Love mine, but the connection issues surface when near large metallic objects. I take off from top of boat away from Engines.

Happy droning.

Hats Bad luck - fwiw we’ve always had great experiences with DJI -(eu) crusty services. 1 repaired and 1 replaced foc - so well worth firing off an email as soon as you are able.
If 4K isn’t important, get a couple of sparks next time, they’re almost consumables these days :)

There's a spy shop in Monaco ,it's sells all sorts of stuff .
All legal in Monaco , to sell - own @ least ,operate that depends where you are .
But @ least you can buy it .

I have a signal blocker legal to own realise illegal in some places to opperate - it has a variable range dial .

I don,t expect any footage from overflying drones of my property to make it .

Sorry to be party pooper to the drone owners ,if you care to ask first before overflying I could @ least inform you .

From what I have read, purchasing a Spark seems to guarantee membership of the club. I notice in a third party press release a tacit admission there is an issue.

Just waiting for the rest of the public to complete the Beta testing for me before I "dive" in.

P.S I enquired to my house contents insurer and they said that if I listed it in the personal possessions section of my insurance then they cover it for loss.

That’s a very sad attitude toward, at least from the forum perspective, a hobby that produces some amazingly interesting, and evocative footage.

Used to have a neighbour who took great pleasure in throwing back punctured footballs from his side of the fence when I was a kid...it takes all sorts I suppose.

Ouch, that's bad luck.

I've also received some intermitted IMU errors, but as the thing has been so effortless and reliable to use, one becomes quite blasé about them.

Dji support has indeed been great. They replaced the osmo mobile with a new one when the old one became sticky.

My Spark is still going strong; I've been following the issues closely but the lower price point does seem to have opened up the technology to those who aren't too good at reading manuals...

Of course now I've written this, mine will go for a swim next time I launch it...

We'll I'm just back from a driving hols to the south of France and took some great footage in Provence with my Mavic and GoPro(s).

I'm now planning the footage / shots I want to take on the water and of course I'm a little hesitant with regards to dropping the Mavic in the drink.

So if anyone can share some do's/don'ts for filming when underway, then please pass on!

What phone are you using? My feeling is that the app on Android has something to do with it.

Bad luck Hurricane, but welcome to the club. You have to be glass half full about it and consider it a price worth paying for the great movies you get. All easily fixed with a debit card!
I hope the SD card survived - that's usually more important than the drone itself

It's quite legal to fly over property (Not in built up areas or over crowds of people) according to the drone code and CAA. your attitude suggests you're happy to cause criminal damage to law abiding citizens. Nice to know exactly what sort of people we're dealing with...

It's quite legal to fly over property.

This statement is not quite correct, if your drone has a camera then you are not allowed within 50m of any vessel, vehiclr or structure which is not under control of the person in charge of the drone.

Tend to have a different set of laws in Switzerland regarding CCTV and privacy , outside officialdom -ie stuff like cameras on houses and drones .
As well as many others .
People here have a higher standard of personal privacy ,a lot less criminality to the extent cars don,t come with alarms and you don,t need to lock your door at night either .

I note on the BBC news site a policeman as been sentenced to 1y in prison for invading personal privacy --filming from a rarther bigger drone -a copter --- erh in the UK .

I,am sure if he had the subjects consent he would not be prison .
Each to there own .

iPhone 7 Plus. Bluetooth off, (phone on), wifi connection to controller. Have also used iPad (Air 2). No problems. Have heard that iOS does work better, but that's based on forum feedback rather than actual evidence.

Only small issue was when I flew it into a low cloud (which is tells you not to) at 100 metres. It started to auto land when I asked it to descend, as I assume the lower sensors thought it was near the ground. 100% user error; drone acted as the manual said it would.

Photo was pretty cool though :)
