At least whoever is in charge of their AIS system has a sense of humour... I'm still puzzled as to how they appear to be moving very slowly south, though.
Can't believe it says its a pleasure craft. When I was there it wasn't much pleasure. Training camp for marine engineer mechanics if I recall right and it was like Stalag 69.
I saw this last week and smiled - two or three of the IOW ferries obviously have equipment issues as I saw them steaming about but no AIS signal shown whilst at the same time other craft were shown in real time OK.
Collingrad as we used to call it is the Weapons Engineering School. The elite engineers went to HMS Sultan Marine Engineering School! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Yes, you've jerked my memory. Sultan for MEM's and Collingwood for WEMS. I only spent one day at Collingwood and wasn't impressed at all. Very strict parade ground mentality and crap facilities. What a dump. Maybe its improved somewhat now.

I too remember (wish I could forget) a week down there when in Naval Cadets. Ahhh that parade ground mentality.
I had a Royal Engineer friend who did a two year posting at Collingwood.
He was never the same after that experience. I know he has had some other Grey Funnel postings, but just the mention of Collingwood makes him tremble. If I remember correctly, his wife loved the social life.
He had a great time time with Crab Air. They just don't give a [--word removed--].
It's where I spent six years of my RN career mostly during my apprenticeship but I got sent back for two years as an instructor - not sure how I pi**ed drafty off but I'm outside now so I don't really care
6 years there....poor you. I remember that training bases were always the worse RN establishments but Collingwood was particularly bad. Raleigh was strict as hell but plush and Dryad was small but less parade ground mentality. Then there was Collingwood....ugh. A real dump and sergeant-major type regime with people shouting at anyone for anything. I only spent one day there and I was dying to get out. Probably better for an NCO though.
Ships were a different way of life though. My captain sent me with a message for an officer at a barracks called HMS Nelson and the officer hit the roof, went berserk at my trousers which had a bit of paint on and my shirt which had grease on the cuff and I was wearing no beret. He screamed at me and I could feel his spittle hitting my face and then gave me a hand written note in envelope for my captain. I gave it to my skipper and and he picked up the phone and said 'Lieutenant, this man is in the 'real' navy on a 'real' ship and the uniform he's wearing he has been working in and working hard. Don't ever send one of my men back with a note like that or I'll send him back with a likewise note for you.' Then he put the phone down and said to me 'What are you standing there for, havn't you got work to do' /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
