Re: I confess

My boat's got a green stripe and sail covers so maybe she's only a bit cursed!

I know that in Falmouth they won't have a green boat. I remember quite a lot of Nicholsons were green and they didn't seem to come to any harm. Likeswise there was that mad frenchman who had a boat called Friday 13 and he seemed OK.

Green is the most dominant colour in the visible spectrum I believe. Anyway, where would we be without a few superstitions? I'm keeping my fingers crosed that its all a load of nonsense.

The local fishermen hereabouts in ye olden days would tar your boat if it was green - probably still would!

It's absolutely true. I bought a green boat, in 1973 and decided not to repaint her till the end of the season. Broke the rudder and had to be towed into Margate, where I spent an unsatisfactory Bank Holiday weekend. Never again.

Now you've gone and offended me!!

Colvic Watsons, Fishers etc. do look good in Green and dark blue, but we are changing to white this autumn to keep her cooler. The darker colours do absorb heat.

Goes back to the days of wooden boats. Darker colours 'specially navy and green were rarely used. Absorbs more heat and opens the planking.

Navy was used for more expensive boats as the owners were considered to be able to afford the upkeep. When all boats were 'yard maintained'.

Car dealers...

... of my aquaintance also confirm that "punters" don't like to buy green as they consider it unlucky.

Maybe the legend of the "Green Man" has something to do with it?

It is well known in the West Country that faeries and wood spirits wear green therefore anyone wearing green could easily fall under their evil influence.Hence green is known to be an unlucky colour.I had a green boat once - never again.

C***t, have you become a faery then? ;-)

I can see why green and sailors is a risky combination for a long trip across the seas!

If you were kinder towards the wee folk maybe they would look after you. Across the water - to the West - I'm sure you'd have a grand reception in a green boat.

Reminds me of this green car I saw once in Dublin - all bashed in on one side. On it the owner had painted in large letters " I'M NOT DRINKING ANYMORE" and then added below in little letters "I'm not drinking any less".

Microsoft vs. General Motors

Bill Gates is hanging out with the chairman of General Motors.

"If automotive technology had kept pace with computer technology
over the past few decades," boasts Gates, "You would now be
driving a V-32 instead of a V-8, and it would have a speed of
10,000 miles per hour. Or, you could have an economy car that
weighs 30 pounds and gets a thousand miles with a gallon of gas.
In either case, the sticker price of a new car would be less than
$50."

In response to all this goading, the GM chairman replies, "Yes,
but would you really want to drive a car that crashes four times
a day?"
