We have acquired a layer of green/black gunge above the waterline. This does nit appear to be oil or similar but some kind of vegetation - I seem to recall reading somewhere that this growth is encouraged by the wash of passing vessels.
Anybody have any ideas how to get rid? I'm assuming we can scrape it off but I'm hoping for some kind of magic potion.
Thanks,
Colin

I have a mooring at Gourock, and two passenger ferries pass frequently, and their inefficient hulls kick up a large wake. I suffered the same problem of green slime above the water line last summer. Last winter I added a 100mm contrasting colour boot top line in Trilux above the WL and that seems to have not only cured it, but given a new look to an old boat.

Sorry for thread drift, but I'm about to do exactly the same and was wondering how much Trilux to buy. Did a 375ml tin prove sufficient? I think our boats are similar sizes (Rival 32?)

The stain may be something like I get after just a few months in water. Oxalic acid or similar acidic stain remover is the best way to treat it. It will come clean in a few minutes. try a half lemon pressed onto the surface. I actually put the mix of stain remover in a spray bottle and swim around the boat squirting it on. I usually have to do a few circuits to get the areas missed on first pass. I wear mask and snorkel which protect from the fine mist of spray. ol'will
