Decided to try and get a stamp into my Dekpa.
Dekpa is bought in 2002, the last stamp dated from 2005. From then on I did not need a Dekpa because the boat is less than 10 m.
I gave the officer my old Dekpa, he saw the last stamp date.
Great consternation, big trouble. Seconds later I was told also that the fine was 5000 €.
If I had not known about this 5000 € fine joke, I would have had an instantaneous hart attack.
It took a lot of talking, my wife who is a skilled diplomat pulling my sleeve all the time.
Now he claimed he could not stamp my old Dekpa. I had to fill in a form declaring I had lost my Dekpa and get a new one.
I asked where to get a new one, ….No answer from both of the officers.
I explained that I knew that getting a new Dekpa was ..sort of difficult because they ware out of stock. Again no reply.
It was also unknown to both officers that yachts shorter than 10 m did not need a Dekpa until some time ago.
Officer kept asking why I had no stamps for the period between 2005 and now.
Explained that the yacht was out of the country most of the time AND a Dekpa was not needed.
He then wanted to see a declaration from a yard that the yacht was out of the water.
Explained again that out of the country meant OUT that is in Italy or Turkey.
Ohh, but still I could be fined 5000 € for not having a stamp.
In the end I signed a paper with a bullock declaration to have lost the Dekpa. He gave the paper 2 ( Yes two ) different stamps. I kept my old Dekpa, just to be sure.
So what now ?
Does anybody know where they sell Dekpa´s ? Not Poros, that is clear. Not Porto Cheli ( I know ) not kranidi, Ermioni, Kilada......
I dont mind paying for a new Dekpa. Peace of mind is worth a lot more than 30€.
BtW he wanted the insurance paper too, had no time to take a look at it so I escaped the other 5000 € fine. ( mine is not in Greek )
Both officers spoke good Englisch when they wanted to express themselfs.
BTW, Is recording a conversation like ours punishable? 5000 € probebly ?
