lots of commotion at one stage at cookham, fire engines and police cars - someone later said that a body had been pulled out the river!

Yes, absolutely fabulous weekend for weather.

Only thing that spoilt the weekend for me was a load of whingers moaning about the lockie having a lunch hour at Penton Hook and being impatient. Dont they realise the river is a place to take it easy?

I was actually quite suprised to see the lockies on duty when we returned back, as I assumed that they might be finishing work at 5pm now it's the autumn, but they were on duty till 6.30pm.

And why oh why

Do folk sail ont the Thames? I do a bit myself and can never understand why you would want to sail on the Thames, the wind is never in the right place, when it is the river bends so you loose it again and that is if there is any wind to start with!

Maybe I should try it before slating it, must admit I missed going out this weekned but Chertsey lock lookded very busy (from the M3...)

was watching the sailing club out on saturday afternoon and did wonder why they bothered as there was no wind what so ever, and they were just sat on the dinghies going nowhere looking a bit embarrased as they sat adjacent to my boat.

Ah, but thats what sail boat people do ! They actually enjoy the tacking bit, thats where the skill lies in using what wind there is to maximum advantage.

I get all that

And more, but there is usually next to no wind and they are left holding the boom, I dont think there is a huge amount of skill being displayed here or any of them I have seen (my reach has loads) I think its more that the club is local so they sail there. All in my opinion though!

Cool pics. But wheres your sock for wrapping up the hood? They look a lot neater that way. Having said that we could be bothered to take our hood off this weekend and just took the front screen down. Greenhouse or what?

Body pulled from the river

The chap had been drinking in The Bounty Saturday night and fell in the river by the kissing gate near the footbridge. His phone was found seperately, so presume he was using his phone and not looking where he was going when he fell in. The really sad part is that he could not swim.

We had a great few days out as well, went up towards oxford. Most bizare sight of the week was waiting for a sailing dinghy , well I say dinghy it was an old rowing boat with mast and piece of rag, trying to sail out of the lock with no wind ! Have some video of it which I`m sure will end on youtube along with some other interesting experiences !

Why do they bother to try and sail on the river.
There is no real room, the wind is fickle and us lot are trying to get through.
Most of them do not even know about the collision regs let alone understand them.
Perhaps they should try lakes.gravel pits or heaven above the sea.

Hilarious events at Fawley Meadow this weekend at top end.

One of those aluminium boats from hobbs with three drunken bums in it (chucking their beer bottles over their shoulder as the swerved all over the river.)
The one in the back (how must have been nicknamed "Tubb of Lard" tried to change sides and the boat leant over so much took loads of water on.
Engine dies. He turns round to start it and makes boat lean over again to point engine is under water.
Finally the whole lot capsizes and they swim ashore to Phylis Court and make a run for it (not before they moon all the wedding guests in the grounds.)
SRB and myself called Hobbs and they came down to retrieve the boat. Phylis court rang the rossers (not sure if they caught them)

Sorry no photos, was too busy laughing!!!
