It is the Unknown unknowns that are the problem!
There is not enough good press on here. 3 companies providing good service and generally being helpful.
Our refit is progressing and the boat is back in the water. Time to tackle the inside bits. While doing so we had some unexpected problems one with a 20 year old Jabasco water pump the other with our Raymarine ST60 Wind instrument.
The water pump was well just old. So a replacement was sought. First off I purchased the wrong type of pump after fitting I discovered this as the pressure was too much for the pressure release valve on the hot water tank. Arrrgggghhh! So some exploration on the web led me to look at the new Xylem/Jabisco range. As I should of bought a PAR MAX 4 pump with the new technology. Having fitted most of the pump bits to the boat already I took the pump back to Marine Superstore to see what could be done.
Me "Wrong pump"
MSS "Do you have the receipt"
Me "Yes"
Mss "No problem - what pump do you need? - we will exchange it for you."
Me "Slight problem - nearly all og the fittings are on the boat"
MSS "OK - Just take the pump and we will sort the rest"
Fantastic - Thanks MSS
Now I fitted the new pump - this did not work - a call to Jabasco technical support and we quickly identified the pump motor was sticking - Very pleasant guy on the phone and once the problem was identified suggested I take the pump aback to where I bought it and exchange it. So back to MSS. Again - no problem sir.
So thanks again to MSS and Jabasco
Now for the wind instruments. Our ST60 Wind packe dup last summer and we have been looking for a replacement on e-bay and elsewhere since then. We kept missing out on auctions and I suggested to SWMBO (Sailorgirl on here)that we should just bite the bullet and replace the whole lot! She was tasked to do some research while I was rewiring/sorting out the heads/ getting my arms cut/swearing and generally those other fitting out bits that seem to come along.
SWMBO found that RayMarine offer a repair service and after a quick phone call to them as we are in Portsmouth she arranged to drop the instrument off to them the next day. When she arrived they took the instrument away, gave her a cup of coffee, replaced the PCB and hey presto we had a repaired unit all while she waited. The fixed ST60 is now back where it belongs and telling me there is over 25knots of wind as I type this! Thank you RayMarine for outstanding customer service.
Thanks to Marine Supper Store, RayMarine and Jabasco!
