This is a bit of a saga. I bought a 5 year old boat last October, and am keeping her on the River 7, and will have the odd blast out into the Bristol Channel (when I get sufficient confidence). As she is over 4 years old, she needs a Boat Safety Certificate for the river. When delivered to the Marina, I got an inspector in, who promptly failed her as she has a WIF (Water in fuel) sensor at the base of each fuel filter. These being cased in nylon fail to meet the flamibility standard of 600 C for 2.5 minutes! Well my boat is very standard, and has the appropriate CE markings, so I assumed the engines were compliant. However, CMD was unable to produce the correct RCD certificate despite correspondence between UK, Brussels and USA (various CMD centres). I met the CMD General Manager at the boat show, and we had a very sensible discussion. To cut a longish story short, David had his team design and manufacture a pair of heatshields, to meet the installation and packaging, and sent out one of his tenchicians to fit them last Friday. On Saturday the BSS inspector issued my my Safety Certificate. Result.
I cannot over stress my satisfaction with CMD. They did not have to do this as they no longer supply the 1.7 DTis as fitted in my boat.
So there we have a very happy and grateful boater.
If I knew how to post pictures of the installation here, I would do so.
