Great idea for an underwater inspection

You could use an old fire extinguisher as a pressure vessel up to 100 to 150 psi then use a hookah scuba demand regulator.

The issue would be filling with clean oil free air.

I think thats generous to the point of absurdity. I’d be quite surprised at a tenth of that.

Yes

The whole thing is an obvious fake to gather Youtube views. In the swimming shots he’s just breath-hold diving like any snorkeler.

But I counted 4 contiguous breath exhalations. I can hold my breath for a comfortable 30 seconds at the surface. A few feet down, it will be less. I still think there would be time for at least a quick look-see with four short breaths at that depth.

I agree - but the silly mockup in the video won’t give you one proper breath at the surface, let alone four at 2m.

The “breathing tubes” aren’t even attached to anything, for goodness sake, just poked through holes in plastic lids. It would be pretty good as a Blue Peter project for a toy prop, but diving equipment it is not.

The airbuddy thing is out of kickstarter now. Much cheaper than a hookah and runs off Li batts

I was given one of there by a passing sailor some time ago as it was not working.

PowerSnorkel | Powerdive

I found the compressor inlet valve had corroded open, cleaned it up and it now works OK.

The battery is a is a sealed 12vdc lead acid as used in alarm systems.

OK, those little bottles he’s using look as if they hold perhaps 250 ml, so 500ml total. The bottles might be able to be pumped up to, lets be generous, 20 bar. So the total of 10 litres of air. Most people use about 15 litres of air per minute, so there’s less than a minute’s worth of air in the bottles. Therefore a total waste of time and energy in terms of extending the amount of time you can spend underwater.
I know where the Layabout is coming from: there’s a constant stream of well meaning folks pushing weird and wonderful “answers” to extending underwater time most of which are, at best, unworkable or, at worst, downright dangerous. This one comes under the unworkable heading.
With that glue 20 bar is about 20 times more than I'd give it! I didn't see anything in the video that he couldn't do with good breath - and nothing from his 'device'.

As said the whole concept must be a hoax. The numbers just don't add up. Most swim masks we use cover the nose so can't exhale that way. Hence he used it initially at least without a mask. We would need a mask to do any under water work. I find I can do every thing under the little boat on a breath of air. Even when for many years I had SCUBA gear in the shed. Just not worth the effort and cost of fills and tests.
Anyway the 2nd stage regulatorin SCUBA gear is a thing of simplicity and beauty. It has a moth piece and a non return valve so you can exhale easily. It has diaphragm about 4cms in diameter sealing the breathing chamber. It is connected to a tilt valve so that when you suck you move the diaphragm so opening the tilt valve allowing air in for you to breath. So breathing is almost normal. (working hard stressed or relaxed) This air is supplied at I think around 50PSI. Hence it can be supplied by a high pressure tank and regulator as in SCUBA or from a tank and pump on deck. All very simple provided the air is clean. So a simple system might be a proper 2nd stage regulator and hose to the surface to a tank and pump. Possibly by using an old gas cylinder and hand pump operated by a helper you might get more time under water. I note that the first hard hat diving suits were fed by a large hand pump operated by 2 men. But do be careful. ol'will

As an ROV pilot, why put a guy in the water? How about this item tyrapped to the boat hook? Cheaper, safer and still able to clear most things from a prop or whatever.

They've 2m & 10m options. Same as you, I very quickly looked for something on line, and presented it. I reckon that it's better value than the item in the OP!

Can't see any value in the one posted by the OP and wonder why people spend the money on Hookah when some proper second hand scuba gear and BSAC or PADI basic training is cheaper.

I have both the Boroscope and also the Fish Finder video system with WiFi transmission .... the finder sinks and has a 30m cable back to the WiFi sender.

I had to clear a rope and gear from my prop last year ...... the water was semi murky - it was OK - guy who offered to dive actually did it by feel in the end.

The Boroscope - useless for this ... TBH
