Going back to your original question, all the info given so far is OK but I have always found it helps if you un-screw the crank case filter, turn the steering to port, this puts the grease point at the front of the steering arm, from there it's simple push the grease gun on and pump the grease in. I do this every month or so as a routine job. Then screw the filter back on - you should be OK there is no copper washer but there is a large rubber one - maybe I shouldn't have mentioned it!!
Hope that is of some help.
Volvo branded oil for 5 litres is around £70. I searched for an alternative that met ALL the specs and found there wasn't alot of difference in price. maybe could have saved a fiver or tenner at best.
I am surprised you managed to find some fully synthetic gear oil at the equivalent of £15 for 5 litres. Even fully synth car engine oil is best part of £30 these days!!!!
neale - Can you tell me where you can get the 20l drum for £250. There's no Volvo dealers in my locality so the best thing I can do is order it and get it delivered. Would Keypart have it? Don't suppose you have a part number??
Ah OK, i'm waiting on Keypart to get back to me anyhow so when they do i'll ask them about the 20l - thanks a lot for the part number, appreciate it. Good to know i'll have the right stuff
Hi
The oil I use is Fuch Silktran SYN 5 75W/90 Synthetic Gear Oil, 25 litres from CPL. I have been using this for 4 years now and my outdrives have just cleared the thousand hour mark.
I also use their 15/40 oil for my engines at the last cost of £30 for 20 litres.
Thanks peanuts, unfortunately no CPL in Ireland /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Will take note of these things for next season, definately going to have to start buying this stuff in bulk
