Hi,

Does anybody have a recommendation for a grease gun to use with standard grease nipples (for the swivel and pivot points on my outboard)_ I have a tube of waterproof grease, like a large toothpaste tube, but all the grease guns I have been able to identify are setup for cartridge tubes of grease, not the soft tubes.
I could purchase a gun and cartridge, but it seems a waste when I already have a tube.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Check out eBay for a Wanner grease gun. Top notch stuff.
It will slurp it out of a tin, or you can pack it by hand from your tube. Messy, but simple to do.

http://www.tecalemit.co.uk/product_info.php/tecagun-lever-type-100gm-capacity-p-2634#!tab3 For many years until a small plastic part broke. Convenient size, only 100cc capacity, for small jobs. One hand operation too

I replaced it with a this one from Halfords

Rather poor by comparison but it does the job

Small Wanner gun here http://www.stephenslube.co.uk/wanner_lubrication.asp but rather more expensive!

One hand operation style is useful

I've had my Wanner gun for over 45 years now - dead reliable although I have less use for it now as cars have "moved on".

Wanners are superb. I have three, filled with normal grease (most things), molybdenum grease (Citroen DS front wheel bearings) and EP90 oil (Triumph Herald front suspension swivels). They cost a bomb new, but as Alpha22 said, you can find them on eBay. They have a bleed screw which deals with the air pockets nigelmercier correctly worries about.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions..

It's only for a once a year service so the cheap Halford gun is tempting, but I'll go for a Wanner of Ebay instead.
