Gravesend Embankment Marina

Interesting. I guess it would make a great stop-over if coming downstream on the way to Ramsgate.

Except that the lock only operates HW +/- 1 - alright if you are going outbound but hopeless for the return trip unless you want to plug the tide. There is only one lock gate.

A report in the Moody mag says that the nearby "The Three Daws" pub does good ale and exceedingly hot curry.

Where ?

Oh its the old Gravesend Canal Basin. Know it well

Have they dredged it properly at last

My office window overlloked the western end at one time

convenient for Gravesend town centre if there is anything there to interest you. But "lock" opening time so limited.

Interesting view from the office though, over the basin and the sailing club, a bit of local industry, the river of course, the sewage farm and Tilbury power station opposite.

Endless hours of entertainment in the winter months when they tried to "dredge" the basin without actually digging any of the mud out.

Which is why I said a stop-ever for Ramsgate

Err.......

Passing by by road not that long ago(doubt much has changed) it made Limehouse look like a luxurious top notch desirable marina full of interesting things to do !
Gravesend does have its attractions, most of which remain well hidden and for very good reasons.
There is however a good selection of breakers yards, lorry parks and ballast loading sites nearbye if you want something to do in the evening.
Also way down a muddy lane is a proper genuine propellor mender who will fix your prop be it tug or Seagull .

Its on my "to visit" list if only out of cussedness, need a bit of cunning to get there conveneinetly from Tedders though. I'd hate to miss the lock. With a decent enty time period and maybe a fuel berth would be a very convenient spot.

They are the best prop peeps I have ever used. Not a big outfit but by god the know what they are at. They made me a set for my old Ocean using Broom specs but tweaking them.
Net result was I gained another knot. I believe the look after the Old Bills boats too. Their prices were amazing and delivery was 48 hours ahead of schedule.
I'm blowed if after all these years I can remember their name so if anyone has it I would like it. I will be needing a new rudder sooner or later for my launch and wonder if this is within their capability.
