Grand Banks Sedan 36

She is all GRP hull & superstructure with teak trim throughout the interior in excellent condition, save the floor which requires a strip and re-coat.

The external varnish has failed in places, particularly the stern planking. Hence my enquiries on PO forum as to best varnish / wood oil to use on teak.

As far as I can see that is all that will keep me busy, apart from enjoying her.

Her equipment is superb, including both bow and stern thrusters. Now I can dock a twin shaft boat into a tight spot with the best of them, but why not cheat when you can, eh !

I use Epifanes clear varnish for exterior. Transom gets stripped back maybe every ten years or so. On the interior including floor, Ronseal Ultra Tough Polyurethane Mattcoat.

Have your teak decks got plugs, ie screws, if so pay good attention to the plugs & seams to keep water out of the deck core. Always look after rain or washing as the deck dries, detached seams will show as still wet when the rest have dried (pardon me if you know all this?). Expect to renew a few metres of seams each year.

My word, turbos & full set of thrusters, lucky chap. I have the Perkins Sabre M130's which i installed in 2000 no thrusters, just about run in after twelve years ?.

GB's are happy boats, constanly have admirers commenting etc & lovely at sea, very safe. Your bit of extra speed compared to my 42 will stiffen her up nicely if there is a sea running. Wet of course but you don't buy a GB to keep dry ??

Good move, a very lovely looking vessel. I think if budget allows, then it's a better bet than either of the current the CHB offerings on the market. From what you said in your other thread, it sounds like you viewed the GB Classic down here in Cornwall? I prefer the layout of the Sedan over the Classic as the outside space is so much more usable and accessible. With no chine on the bow above waterline, sleeping in the forward berths should not keep you awake at night at anchor with wave slap. Did you consider/view the GB Europa Sedan in Brighton (on with the same broker as yours)? I hope your purchase goes well. (y)
