Handheld VHF, EPIRB, flares, copy of boats papers, torch off the top of my head. We have a seperate bag that can be used to pack food and water etc

Hi viz orange vest with reflector stripes on it, I helped myself in the spares cupboard at work. Rolls up to the size of my fist in a little drawstring bag. Could make the difference of me being seen or not in the dark and weighs nothing. Oh mustn't forget pouch of rolling tobacco, windproof lighter, Filter tips and papers.......And Digestive biscuits!

The thing that, after some research, I chose not to put in it is a hand held water maker. The membrane needs replacement annually or they are useless. Torch, seasick pills, hand held VHF, EPIRB, Kendal mint cake, crystallised ginger, knife, tumbler, factor 50 sunblock, fishing line.

Have you considered using the Katadyn series of hand operated watermakers ? Their maintenance is annual, but minimal and speedy. SOLAS approved for liferafts.

A selection of beads to exchange with natives for food.
A book of prayers to as many different gods as possible.
A travel iron, so that proper British decorum may be maintained, and/or should I wish to try to turn the head of some dusky grass-skirted maiden.
Of course, if I'm going beyond Harwich, and out to sea, the aforementioned essentials may need to be further supplemented.

Can’t imagine the usefulness of rolling tobacco/papers in what is likely to be a wet environment ? A packet of fags with the cellophane wrapper intact might work.

Don’t have a grab bag to take onto the boat, pretty much ALL my useful stuff and best tools are already there.
I’ve still got five unopened packs of rolling baccy I bought in New Zealand 16 years ago, maybe I should start smoking again....

I’d prefer ‘IF‘ I’m sinking rather than ‘when’ ? DSC vhf clipped to LJ, car keys and flares next to helm in the wheelhouse, where I currently boat ‘tis enough. When I’m able to go further afield again I’ll organise a grab bag.

Roy here never leaves the pontoon, thats why all he needs is the kids arm band things. My sea going emergency grab bag has all the usual accoutrements to facilitate a rescue. Only unusual thing is perhaps the rope cutter. Evil little tool. Not found a rope I cant cut in a single slice yet.
