On the boat we have had a tracker that has chugged away and responded to requests for location from people who know how to ask.

The instructions are in that special Chinese english. My mandarin is of course great, just struggle with the alphabet.

Anyway there is an old style USB socket on the side of the unit. The very early one and not slim like the ones that fit the socket on Android phones. Sometimes known as "Thunderbolt"

Has anyone got the remotest idea what it is for?
The boat is going so I should remove it but wonder what else I might use it for.
There are a lot of options, like switching the power off remotely and so on.
What can I use it for?

I plugged a cable into it and connected it to my PC - both parties got very excited and the tracker shut down and the PC said it [the tracker] had attempted an illegal operation, or similar.

What tracker is it ... that might help us help you. Even a picture or link to sales site ... scan of instructions ?

I use trackers for various items and all mine are rechargeable via the USB socket. But I guess yours is not like mine - I think you may have alternative power setup for yours ?
