According to the Garmin website at www.garmin.com the GPS120XL was supplied with a data /power cable in the USA but maybe not in europe. A cable can probably be easily made however or sourced from a Garmin supplier. The manual can be found at:-

http://www.garmin.com/products/gps120xl/manual.html

where the pinouts can be found. My copy of oziexplorer software available from www.oziexplorer.com lists GPS120 as being able to be talked to so grab the free version of oziexplorer and you should be able to upload and download waypoints, tracks, routes etc. I have even scanned maps in and can track where we are going live from my GPS using the NMEA output from the GPS. You should be able to do this with the 120XL as well.

Whilst I find Garmins aftersales service extremely good, they told me I would need to purchase a £65 CD plus interface cable (£29) to store my waypoints on PC.

I have found another way. If you just want to back up and manipulate your waypoints and routes, try a neat little free program at http://www.tapr.org/~kh2z/Waypoint/ This site will also give you the wiring connections to make.
