Standard horizon plotter, was all working before fitting. I had to cut the antenna lead to pull through from radar arch down to where it is fitted but it has been neatly rejoined and no change of length to cable.
After power up looking at satellite status it quickly displays a strong signal on usually 9 of the 12 satellites.
However sometimes it gets date/time/positon fix and sometimes it will not at all. Last weekend it got no fix all weekend, despite showing 9 strong satellite signals.
Unplug the antenna cable and the signal status all drops indicating the aerial works or at least toi a point!
Any ideas?

haha.....sadly not with this, cruised up and down Southampton water and nowt. I found online a RAM reset, and tried that, it has no waypoints etc to lose currently it was new out of a box when I fitted it (though about 10 years old I guess!)
After this reset it immediately found a fix. Then I tried it again and it struggled, but I turned it off and on again and fixed.
So maybe I have helped it? we shall see.
Standard Horizon were very helpful and said the fault is common to antenna gone bad or a component in the unit....but not so helpful as to say what the component is!

Hi, I had a similar issue with my Raymarine GPS, upon starting it could find satellites signal but then it showed up a "no fix" or :position lost" signal. It turned up to be that the RS120 GPS sensor/antenna had an internal battery that went dead after about 12 years. After the replacement of the battery I had no issues at all.

Could it be something similar to your case either?

The following link ( https://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19281 ) was very helpfull to me as it describes my problem exactly. You could have a look to check if something similar is happening to your case.
