I've just bought the navionics boating HD, installed it on the Hudl2 and am having difficulty enabling the GPS receiver. At least the programme says "waiting for GPS signal"

The "location" is active so I'm obviously missing something.

Any ideas ?

Cheers
Chris

Go outside, to a position with a 360 view of the sky, and wait, patiently. Like any other GPS receiver it will probably take ages (~20mins) to get an initial fix and to build the almanac.

I assume by "location is active" you mean the hudl status bar is showing the little location symbol white (not grey)?
In which case, I would be checking the adroid settings->location->mode and make sure it is set to high accuracy.
Does something like google maps get a proper lock from the gps?

Other than that I am not sure what to suggest I am afraid.

There seems to be a lot of problems with the GPS on the Hudl2. I'd consider replacing it with something a bit more reliable.

Buy youself a bluetooth GPS receiver-just a little dongle sized item and add a GPS app to your Hudl.
I use Bluetooth GPS
It links to your tablet-mines a Hudl 1
I use mine with Marine Navigator another App very cheap to buy.
Free charts for NZ some of South America and the USA
Add Visit my harbour charts-about £20 and you are totally set up.
Seeing the screen in bright sunlight is another story.

Really? I make no apologies for being a bit of a fan of the Hudl 2. Runs Navionics HD well,
and has been totally reliable, even after flying off the nav table many times (in its case).

Totally agree, not sure what these so called problems with GPS are ??... I have been using my Hudl2 and Navionics since leaving Falmouth in 2014...absolute 100% reliable and amazingly accurate GPS...in fact so much so I bought a second one...just in case I ever do have problems....none yet....'Oh and the Cherry on the Cake' was that it only cost me £29 with my Tesco vouchers 5 years ago !!

I was impressed with the Hudl 2 when it came out and got one specifically for navionics. Unfortunately, like most others, the charging IC packed up after about a year meaning it could no longer be charged so I swapped it for a Samsung. Tesco were very good and gave me a full refund.
The no longer manufacture this piece of crap and don't support it either as there were too many faults/returns involved. If yours is still working you're exceptionally lucky - I should buy a lottery ticket.

If you've had an item that failed completely within a short space of time, you'd have to be pretty dumb to buy another one and rather antisocial to recommend others to do so. I've checked the feedback on these and, with a few exceptions, it's not good and most of the failures are with the charging IC. My conclusion is that, whilst Tesco are good at retailing, they're not so hot at making computers and have now realised it and withdrawn from the market.
