GPS Jamming in July

eh, mon ... ha-won, ha-too, ha-won-too-free-four....

We're jamming
I wanna jam it with you,
We're jamming, jamming
And I hope you like jamming too

Ain't no rules, ain't no vow, we can do it anyhow
I and I will see you through,
'Cos every day we pay the price with a little sacrifice
Jamming till the jam is through.

We're jamming
To think that jamming was a thing of the past,
We're jamming, jamming
And I hope this jam is gonna last

No bullet can stop us now, we neither beg nor will we bow
Neither can be bought nor sold.
We all defend the right, JAH JAH children must unite
Your life is worth much more than gold.

We're jamming, jamming
We're jamming in the name of the Lord
We're jamming, jamming
We're jamming right straight from JAH

Holy mount Zion
Holy mount Zion
JAH sitteth in Mount Zion
And rules all Creation

Yeah, we're jamming, jamming
I wanna jam it with you
We're jamming, jamming
I'm jammed, I hope you're jamming too

Jam's about my pride and truth I cannot hide
Too Keep you satisfied.
True love that now exist is the love I can't resist
So jam by my side.

Pass the weed, mon.

Hi all. I just spoke to the man at the MOD. Sqn ldr Rickets. Apparently the whole thing is innacurate and ofcom have got the wrong end of the stick on this one. There will be NO gps jamming in the southern approaches in may. There will be some jamming to certain radar and comms frequencies but they are absolutely not allowed to interfere with normal maritime radar and communications frequencies. If any effect is felt by marine users we should report by phone to ofcom and the situation will be immediately rectified. Sqn ldr Ricketts assures me that we have nothing to worry about.

(apart from being shot at)

Indeed. This came out a couple of days ago:

Ofcom's notice of a GPS jamming exercise sent on 18/03/2011 (Dates: 19 – 26 May 2011 Times: limited periods between 0700z 19 May to 1600z 2 May 2011) was issued in error and has been withdrawn.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Aye Snooks, I know the place very well, and will hopefully get the wife to take the car over on the ferry to assist in travel.
Tides!!, you lot in the South dont know your living!
Going through the Flow to Stromness is the easier option, but I fancy going to Kirkwall and then on to the wee islands. Ive never been over to them before. Kirkwall is around 11 or 12 hours from Wick.
The wife aint so keen though, so it may just be myself..........

Wick to Kirkwall is easy enough, just need to give the Pentland Skerries a bit of a wide berth. Must admit I could get SWMBO to join me for that one either! You'll just need to get your timings right for going through 'The String'. Aim to get there at HW so you can carry the ebb into Kirkwall Bay. If you need to wait for the tide to turn, anchor in Deer Sound or in the bay by Helliar Holm.

Coming back dead easy, leave Kirkwall about an hour before LW and you carry the tide with you all the way back to Wick. Although don't recommend doing over night in the middle of November, although it was entertaining and bloody freezing!!
