I bought a Garmin Streetpilot for my car last year, which SWMBO finds so useful that I haven't been allowed to use it yet /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Was playing with it the other day, when I noticed this screen which shows how fast she's been going

Then I found that I could download and modify the Splash screen, which looks like this

Hee hee! Here was my first go. Uploaded it whilst she was out and innocently left it where I'd found it

It wasn't difficult to convince her that it 'knew' when she'd exceeded the speed limit, but this is the one which really got me into Trouble

So had to come clean in the end, and this is now her new splash screen

excellent.

a few years ago i got a new car and convinced swmbo that the car was so advanced that it "knew" the speed limit on any road and wouldn't let the car go any faster. Safety feature you see darling? Sure enough, when she had a go up and down the stree it wouldn't go faster than 30mph. I confessed to setting the limiter at 30mph as she was about to get very upset /go bonkers...

Hee hee, could try that one also!

Funniest thing with the fixed penalty notice was that she held back from telling me for a couple of days, whilst I was biting my lip in anticipation and going up the wall

Re: GPS Fun & Games (slightly boaty)

I have a max speed of about 470mph on my quest should puzzle plod. Obtained over France in a 737 /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: GPS Fun & Games (slightly boaty)

I have a garmin map76 handheld which I use as a back up to the chartplotter on the boat. I looked at the trip computer the other day and, somewhat to my surprise saw that the highest speed recorded this year was 137.4 knots.

Now that is not bad for a sunseeker portofino....

The thought occurred that maybe it had been left on in the car but that's still a fair old lick for a Diesel Range Rover.

I definitely haven't taken it on a plane so I guess it must have been when I was out for a quick run one day. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Meanwhile in Norfolk:-

RAF radar affected cars says MoD
The Ministry of Defence has admitted that a fault at a radar dome was responsible for causing electrical problems with dozens of cars.

Engines and lights cut out and speedometer dials swung up to 150mph as motorists drove past the dome.

At the time the MoD said there was no guarantee that the Trimingham radar on the north Norfolk coast was the cause.

It now says it will consider claims for compensation after an inquiry found the radar was "out of alignment".

No danger

An MoD spokeswoman said the inquiry revealed the Type 93 radar spinning inside the dome had been out of alignment between November last year and this February.

The spokeswoman said that there was no danger to the public or personnel but the MoD would now consider outstanding compensation claims on a case-by-case basis.

Neil Crayford, who runs the nearest garage, Crayford & Abbs at Mundesley, said he dealt with 30 calls over a couple of months.

He said the problem was still happening.

"We have had a Nissan Terrano in here three or four times in the past week with the same sort of problems - dials going haywire and blacking out, which we had to reset."

But the MOD spokeswoman said: "There is no known recurrence of the problems experienced last year."
