GPS feed to DSC VHF from NMEA2k network

You havent mentioned if your existing set up has an AIS receiver. If it doesnt then might i suggest it'll soon be on the shopping list. If this is the case then you might as well buy a new Vhf with AIS and an integral gps!

If you do buy a new vhf or gps dongle make sure the gps chipset covers all latest american,chinese, indian, russian and european 'gps' satellites to gain max positional info.
 
I'm sure I can manage to connect a 5v power supply if that's what's needed and the BR355 will do the job. There's nothing wrong with the existing VHF so at this stage I won't want to spend £200+ to replace it. No AIS at this stage either.

I'm off to read the specs of the various GPS mushrooms...
