Sunday 10th September 2006 Chichester Harbour. Did anyone else experience GPS position errors of about 300 metres from 13.45hrs or is my GPS on the blink? Worked fine all day up to this point with accuracy well within spec.

Have you sailed in the area before and NOT experienced the errors?

I ask because season before last I had an error of that type in Carentan - everything was OK up till the last leg of the canal and into the marina, and two days later it was still out until we had cleared the canal and were into the estuary. Either there was some interference on the GPS signal - unlikely - or, more likely, the charting on the plotter wasn't as accurate as it could be. Using Navonics gold, and had no other problems of this nature, so put it down to a one off chartling glitch.

Current generation GPS signals can be locally jammed with only a few hundred pounds worth of cheap electonics bits sourced from discount hobby electronic stores. The Achilles heel /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
