GPS Antenna advice

Hi all
Currently in the channel Isles ,heading to Britainy , having trouble with GPS fix , on start up takes a while to find sats then when underway loses fix, shows no data or confirms we have reached our destination when we are still mid channel, understand that the antenna,s do fail, recommendation for a replacement , exiting is a Raymarine , plotters 2no c series wide, how easy are they to replace, or would recommend to switch to internal Plotter GPS to carry on,

I don't use an external GPS antenna and the VHF and AIS happily pick up a fix down at the chart table. Personally, I'd switch to the internal GPS even if it was just to test it is the antenna and not the plotter. Are there any warships nearby? They maybe blocking the signal.

Short term, I would swith over to the internal antenna.

We had similar problems to the ones you describe. Many (all?) of the Raymarine mushrooms have a button cell battery in them. Typical life seems to be c10 years or so. Ours failed after 10 years..... It was a bu**er replace - it was spot welded in!

You can either buy a Raymarine replacement or get one off ebay. Evermore brand has worked for other on the forum. Be sure you buy the correct one!

Thanks for the replys , going to switch to internal GPS and see how it responds, typical this being about the only time I need it , once past Jersey unchartered waters for us ��.
Lost power to all nav gear including Fixed VHF on way to Guernsey, no problem Just keep on original course revert back to good old paper , and passage plan that I had previously done,
Left 1st mate in charge , while I had a check , turns out 1st mate had inadvertently turned power off , I,m sure she does it to keep me on my toes

Any feedback on this thread after you tried an internal antenna? I understand some devices suffered gps problems after a thing called RollOver?

Apparently this is something like a reset for the whole GPS system that occurs every 190 weeks. My TomTom for the car has lost its time display

We switched to the internal GPS , and have been problem free since ,hope this helps you
