Why don't they work around nash sands and manobier range?

I've never had a problem anywhere in the Bristol channel with either GPS or compass. How far out do yours fail?

I've once had a problem with gps (on the same day as others on here reported). But never with compass (unless my phone was in my pocket). Have passed both Manorbier and particularly Nash a good few times without issue.

A friend of mine once put his Blackberry down near one of my compasses. It turned through 180 degrees! From that point all phones are banned from anywhere near the compasses. The case of my camera also affects them as it has a magnet to keep it closed.

I generally sail on gps/chartplotter/laptop but its happened a few times now once with i think commodore of byc.Odd thing it never has happened flying.Someone mentioned high levels of iron ore on the sea bed.Sounds viable i suppose.

Think that Droggy would know about a serious magnetic anomaly by now.
Even a large shallow wreck can affect the compass (and autopilot) on a
5000t DWT ship (frightening the first time!!) Ditto electric cables. Always
went into hand steering crossing the "Interconnector" in the English
Channel. Most small boats are usually yawing quite a lot anyway.
Can't see how iron ore would affect gps (unless you were underneath it!)
