Got bashed on the mooring

The Lake Yard moorings are on a direct line from the channel markers if you are going from/to the River Frome and Ridge Wharf and Redclyffe. If the yellow paint is distinctive, it could be worth checking on boats that are in the river, or a phone call to see if any yellow boats have lifted in during the past few days? There are only a couple of possible spots, which might help to narrow it down. The damge should be apparent on their boat too, if you can find a possible suspect......

A well known internet based insurance company who incidentally ammended their terms and conditions to state that any repairs will not necessarily return the boat to its pre accident condition.

what's the name of this company?

Probably no help, but when I was visiting Poole harbour last year, on my way back around Brownsea Island from Pottery Quay to the main channel, I had a near miss with a couple of fishing boats that seemed to be racing each other - one of them had a yellow hull...

I'm glad to hear the good reports on Towergate. I have been using them for years, with no claims so no knowledge of how well they perform. I can only say that they are extremely pleasant to deal with and unbelievably cheap.

I feel sorry for the OP -- I had a similar case a couple of years ago where some motor yacht from Norfolk smashed into my stern, bending my davits, when I was not on board (these were the days when I still kept the boat in a marina). The boat next to me suffered structural damage and almost sunk. When I heard from my neighbour that the culprit refused to pay even him, I did not bother even making a claim. Only just a couple of months ago got around to having my davits straightened out.

Sh*t happens.

Yes the cost of a marina berth for the work was mentioned straight away to the Insurance company as extra to the quotes, I spent 3 days on a marina berth for the work to be done. The work was excellent and only took so long because of rain and cold.
The flowcoat finish was a perfect match for the Westerly white gelcoat, and they also replaced the mainsheet track that had also become bent.
The insurance company was De Nov; .My own is Towergate who were not involved as 3rd party insurers.
The quotes(6) ranged from £1800 to 1500,and the dearest ones quoted insisted that I detach the pushpit and refit, and did not include any berthing/lift charges.

Its never nice to discover your pride and joy has been damaged and the culprits fled, leaves a nasty taste in the mouth. I had the same when I had a mooring on the Frome. The damage, as yours, had to be repaired from outside due to interior moulding.
The fibreglass company the insurance company used were excellent. Once repaired you wouldn't have known that there was a repair there at all. Even the gel coat was mixed to match the aged existing.
I hope that the conclusion of this gets settled for you quickly. It must be bloody infuriating for this to happen so early, if at all, in the season. Good luck with it.

Thanks for all the help and support here.

Yes very frustrating, I just have to accept it now, otherwise I'll be looking out for yellow boats for the rest of my life!
Just hope the insurance company comes up trumps and the season, hopefully, can only get better.

If your anything like me, you will be sizing up Yellow boats for the rest of your days...

Before I saw your post I thought that the damage looked like the sort of thing a fishing-boat would do and I think that's where I would be looking first. Very bad luck and I hope it's sorted out soon.

ouch!

have you looked in to cctv,I bet there is a cctv overlooking it some where,I caught mine after finding a tape at the co-op shop that looked out over the back, can not say much as going throu the court system now,
happy hunting

Good luck with the claim and repairs. I guess if the insurers are willing to go ahead without finding the culprit, you may as well too!

I noticed your given name and just wanted to add, my boat is called Mojo, after the original builder/owner and wife, Maureen and John. A sister ship used to be called Pambri (Pam + Brian). Bit tricky for me as I don't have a partner - just have to name any future boat "Vera" as it was my nickname at work, thanks to my initials.

Rob.
