There's a yellow boat somewhere with a scratch on it's hull.

However, ours has the pushpit pushed through the fibreglass. This on a an otherwise perfect, all be it 30yr old, boat that I've tried my best to keep up together.
I put her on the mooring on Tuesday and went down yesterday to find the damage. I've reported it to Poole Harbour Control who in turn have reported it to the HM, but hold out little hope of finding the culprit.
The mooring is directly opposite Lake Yard entrance, fairly close to a large unused moored barge. It's possible it could have been someone taking a short cut to or from Wareham, or just someone cutting through the moorings.
Either way I'm pissed off.

Every sympathy with your situation. Have been there and its so frustrating. We had a damaged rudder, toerail and hull scratches. Hopefully your insurance company will step up and get you sorted pdq. We had a long protracted argument with our insurance company who claimed the repairs constituted betterment. Hopefully your season won't be compromised.

who were they

A well known internet based insurance company who incidentally ammended their terms and conditions to state that any repairs will not necessarily return the boat to its pre accident condition.

I've already had a repair man make a quick assessment. He says due to lack of space the repair will have to be done from the top(deck level), thus making the boat unoriginal.
I couldn't contact my insurance company yesterday due to not having their details. I'll try today.
I'll post a pic in a mo.

Know how you feel . I had my boat rammed by a Ben 42 on the Hamble; coaming fractured; pushpit a write-off and aft locker jammed and chipped, mooring cleat distorted on the quarter; only the boarding ladder saved her from more serious hull damage.

The yacht owner reported to the Harbourmaster who took photographs of the damage, contacted and emailed them to me.
The insurance quotes I got amounted to £1500 and were settled without any quibbles from the owner or his insurance company; and an apology for the accident.

The repairs were done but I lost 5 weeks sailing sorting the claim and quotes.

The pushpit was scrapped and a new one built (£400) as all locations were altered for the feet bases.
Hope you find the culprit.

Ian, that sounds similar to our incident, though your's sounds more serious.
is the repair visible in any way?
From how you've described it, the repair bill seems fairly cheap.
Helen has just checked the insurance schedule and it states that if the damage occurred on the mooring whilst unattended I don't lose my NCB or have to pay the excess.

The insurance company is closed today, probably till Tuesday, should I ring the emergency number even if it's to get the incident logged?

Good point, try to make sure all the "incidentals" you can think of are included in the quotes! Even if it's your own club doing the lift in/out, get the cost included.

Rob.

Is it likely the insurance will cover the lift in and out?

Mine didn't although it was partly my own fault for only thinking of it later. That said, my company was excellent in every other way, and were completely reasonable on the betterment issue.
My one bit of advice would be to include EVERYTHING that is going to cost you money in the claim. The company can then take off anything not covered.
Quite understandably they're not at all keen to deal with incremental claims for the same incident.
What happened to you is soooooooooo frustrating though.

Yes.
I had our wind genny damaged by the boom (I would assume) of someone sailing/racing within the moorings, and informed the insurance company as soon as I had seen the damage - on a weekend. There is always someone to answer/log damage claims.

colhel,

by a strange ( ? ) coincidence I had my rubbing strake smashed when alongside Poole Town Quay a couple of years ago when I was away in town, returning to find well over £200 worth of damage; I was told it was a fishing boat crashing alongside in search of a lunchtime pint, who cleared off quickly when they saw the damage they'd done - the neighbouring boats were locals and wouldn't tell me the miscreants' name - probably just as well as I was all set to give him a flare up his own transom !

Sorry to hear of your problem. When we were hit on our home mooring by uninsured boat, my insurers (Towergate) paid all costs including lifts and legal assist paid uninsured losses (excess, loss of use etc.) and NCB not affected. They actually paid my hourly rate to do the work as I undercut the two quotes received.
