Does anyone have any info on this ancient east coast boat building company who built fishing boats main ly,but between the wars in 1936 built my 37' gaff cutter Radiance of Boston.
Does anyone know anything about Radiance? She is a canoe stern yacht designed by S Bellchamber and I know nothing of her history???? Any information or clues would be very welcome. Many thanks. Lizi /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

A book called 'Gaff-rigged out of Boston' about Gostelow's yard was published in 2001 by Rushmere Publishing. It was written by SR Wright and includes a lot of the history of the yard and details of boats that were built there. I don't have a copy, so I don't know if Radiance is mentioned, but try contacting Rushmere Publishing: 32 Rushmere Road, Carloton Colville, Lowestoft, Suffolk. NR33 8DA. Tel: 01502 5309925.

Good luck!

At least two other books tell of boats built by Gostelows; "Building a Little Ship" by W H Johnton (1935, but republished 1972) is about having a boat "Lillibullero" built there, and Martin Eve's "An Old Gaffers Tale" (1984)is about his cruising in another Gostellow boat "Privateer". Chapter 18 is about his research into the Gostelow background. Anybody know what happened to "Privateer"? She was looking a bit sad when I saw her in Heybridge Basin some 10-15 years ago, but haven't seen her since.

Just realised both messages from you Ian thanks again. I am sure Raidance must be there somewhere she is quite a specific design never seen anything exactly like her but then so many have been lost, maybe there were others. I would post a picture but cant see how to do that. Ironically I try to play Lillibullero on my melodeon but can get it together at all!

Privateer is up and running. She sailed in last years OGA East coast Race. Lillibulero is in Holland. Saw her in the summer of 2005 at Hellovoetsluis with the DutchClassic Yacht Regatta(DCYR) looking very smart.
