Gori v flex-o-fold

One of the problems with peoples opinions is that people always tend to be positive about their purchases. If you've spent £700 odd on a Kiwi prop, you are not likely to say that is useless....

I have sailed and motored with a good few different props. From my exprience, the Gori WILL go in reverse - despite what people say.

I have just fitted a three bladed max-prop and naturally I think its the best priced, best prop in the world.

I am also confident that the kiwi prop is a fine bit of engineering, but in the end any of the props will do a good job of reducing your drag - unless someone is going to tell me black is white?

I had come down to a similar choice as yourself - folder rather than feathering as my personal preference. I went for the Flex-o-Fold in the end mainly as there wasn't much difference in price and the Darglow people were extremely helpful and fitted it FOC a couple of months back. I would have to totally agree with Snowleopard in that the performace is excellent, as I posted last month. I had some concerns (from reports about old folding props) when ordering about the performace compared to my old fixed two blade which were unfounded. Performace astern is the same, boat easly stops, much less prop walk and most notably the performance ahead is much improved (no idea why).

Most important, however, is the improved sailing performace, commented on by one of my regular crew on Saturday.

I suspect at the end of the day not much divides the performace of any of the modern folders. As you can guess, I am very happy with the performace of my Flex-o-Fold

As FullCircle gave a refference to my page and my comments about the Gori I would like to add the following.
As for sailing speed most cruisers would hardly notice a difference wether they have a folding or fethering prop. My reason for choosing a folding is mainly I preferr the design compared to a feathering prop. I choose a 3-blade for maximun thrust and economy and minimum vibrations. Normally for the HP (28) the manufacturers will recomend a 2-blade. As for the Gori: Not only mycorrosion experience and lousy factory support/handling etc, but the over drive design is more suitable in Donald Duck Magazine than in practical use! What propeller to choose? What You feel comfortabel with designwise and do not forget who gives a good service and follow up! All moovable parts needs service and repair sooner or later!

can I put in a vote for the Bruntons varifold. We replaced our Gori 2 blade due to corrosion and chose the Brunton which is so far performing very well. Excellent srvice also from First Marine Propulsion in Southampton, including coming out on a Sunday morning and taking away the wrongly threaded nut, returning it to Gosport in about 3 hours.
