I appreciate an underwater camera would be better but I can't use for mountain biking, motorsport and sailing too

At £100 a basic Gopro looks tempting
- Has a low light setting but no idea if this would be adequate
- Would be working blind but could probably capture enough by waving around?

What would I need to get to the propeller?
- I'm thinking a couple of lengths of 2x1 or Aluminium pole + fittings might be better than a dedicated Gopro pole in seawater
- Approach from stern or side of hull .. perhaps from dinghy?

Does wi-fi work underwater? I got an SJcam 4000 wi-fi, for Christmas, a sort of knock off Go-Pro but it is possible to view what the camera is looking at via my iPad mini and iPhone 4. You can also start and stop filming, take stills etc. works well indoors but no idea if it would work from under a boat!!

I don't think the wifi signal will travel through water.. Sjcam still £40 quid saving over the basic GoPro though

The wifi feature didn't work for me last summer. As soon as the go pro was a few cm below the water I lost the pic on my phone. So you have to aim it where you think the prop is.......

Great fun on the end of the boathook just above the waterline, especially as we tacked ;-)

Looked like we were going really fast !

I use a Tough Cam for underwater stuff on the boat - works very well on the end of a mono pod from the dinghy.

Go GoPro has such a wide angle lens that it's practically impossible not to get the Prop in the shot - the difficulty is the back lighting and getting enough detail to see what you want to see clearly.

The video demo earlier in the thread looked great - but you have to remember that was on a mobo with the shaft fairly near the outboard side of the vessel - I did similar with our 37' sailing boat and Volvo saildrive and it wasn't easy - especially from a tender (we were on a swing mooring) - but it did produce some results.

I can confirm that Wifi doesn't work underwater. :(

I wouldn't buy a GoPro or similar just to inspect the prop - If that's its primary use then there are wired cameras that will give you a live view - but it's certainly a bonus for a secondary use.
