On opening 'Google Earth' on my PC, it always spins to America! Probably the default setting! As I tend to be bimbling around Uk and Europe area. Can anyone tell me how to make it default to this area on opening, so I don't need to drag the globe around?

Changing the default view...

In the "My Places" list, there's "default". Click on this, then navigate/zoom around to whatever you want the new default view to be. Then click Edit > Snapshot View. Should open next time at the place you've selected.

Re: Changing the default view...

Its great isn't it.

Just back from sailing in NZ. Was able to use Google earth to look at potential anchorages. Some places the detail is so good could make out the tenders lying behind yachts in the anchorages

This could become interesting, too: you can also integrate informations from skipperguide into google earth. Locations, like anchorages and marinas, which are entered in skipperguide will be displayed on the globe.
Skipperguide is a wiki-based cruising guide. There is not too much info at the moment, but everybody can add informations, so it will grow over time (feel invited to contribute /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ).

The links: the URL is SkipperGuide.com, the direct link to the Google Earth data is here
