Google Earth Being Censored?

Is my Google Earth playing up or is this a case of censorship? What are the "Authorities" hiding. I have tried several times logging onto Google Earth and get the same image. It is Vlissingen, to the east of the Breskens/ Vlissingen ferry terminal.

Anyone seen this sort of thing before?

Yes - Google will censor an image where requested by the "authorities" and the Dutch seem to be quite keen on it. See Wikipedia

Seems that there was a nasty localised sea-mist on the day the photo was taken!

This is quite normal over airfields and military installations...Yet they have not censored the big big big hole at Rosyth....Now they will next week

ANd yet the US military airbase at "Aviano, Italy", with nuclear capability is quite clear. Strange.

Another weird thing - Area 51 in nevada is uncensored as far as I can see, all is fine in satellite but when you go to map mode, even though you know there are buildings etc, it is just all blanked out....

Interesting to look at, if you look south west you can see the craters from Nuke testing /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

How old are the photos though ?, the one showing our house is about 5 years old, so if the rest are that old, not much use anyway.

Devonport dockyard is in fine detail, mind you the navy hasent got many ships to hide

A nuclear power station I once helped commission is shown as green fields. Funny though as the massive transformers and associated cabling is still there.

It's a free service, and very useful. If you want up to date satellite photos, you quite reasonably, have to pay. There are many such pay per use up to date satellite and aerial photography sites.

Try Brighton nudist beach. Lots of small triangles have been blanked out.
